Snowball

Hi Everybody.
Tonight it is snowing, and snowing and SNOWING!!
I am going to tell you how I became a snowball.

Sue's friend, Rose called and said, "Let's take the dogs for a walk!" So we all went for a three mile walk in a HUGE SNOWSTORM!!! We had a BLAST!!!
But at the end of the walk there was a big difference between me and Lucy, the black lab. Guess what it was????
Lucy did not have a speck of snow on her. Not even one snowflake.
Sue said, "What should I DO??????"
Rose said, "Just put Elvis in the tub and fill it with water til the snowballs melt."

So that is what Sue did. We ran upstairs...

Then Sue filled the bathtub and I stood there for a long time until the snowballs melted.
Sue said, "You are like a big woolen mitten!" I did not know what a mitten was, but I did not think I wanted to be a mitten.

Soon the snowballs melted and I got out of the tub. Then Sue wrapped me in warm towels, and then I fell asleep on the floor.

That is what happened when I became a snowball.

Love,
Elvis.

Corrie...

Hi Everybody.
Today I am very sad. I did not know what "sad" was until yesterday when Sue, Peter and Meg took Corrie to the Vet and she did not come back.

When I was little Corrie welcomed me into Sue's family and watched over me.

Sue said that she and Peter went to pick Corrie out when she was a puppy in May of 1997. That was when Sue was very sick from chemotherapy. Sue told Peter on the way home: "My goal is to outlive this dog." That was almost fourteen years ago!!!

When Corrie began to get sick I started to watch over her. We were best friends. Now she is gone. This is the very first hard life lesson I have had to learn. This is a lesson about my puppy heart being broken.
I just wanted you to know I am very sad. And lonely.
Love,
Elvis.

Winter Walk

Hi Everybody.
It's me. Elvis. Today when I looked out the window I did not think we would go for a walk. It was soooooo windy and cold and the snow was blowing everywhere!!
But Sue got all bundled up and we DID go for a five mile walk.
Before the walk guess what I found? A clump of grass when I dug in the snow. Sue said, "Ugh. This has GOT to stop!"

When we started our walk Sue said, "Elvis, do you know that it is 25 degrees out with 35 mile per hour gusts?"

But I could not hear her because my ears were blowing in the wind. Sometimes I think Sue is crazy.

Love,
Elvis.

When I am Bad...

Hi Everybody.
Remember I told you that sometimes I am bad? Now I am going to tell you about that.
I am bad a lot when we are supposed to go to sleep.
I always put my head on Sue's bed as soon as she is ready to go to sleep.
Then she says, "Elvis. I do NOT want any trouble."

Sure enough, as soon as she pulls up the covers there is TROUBLE! It starts when I begin to pull at her blankets.

She says, "ELVIS!" I DO NOT want any TROUBLE!!
Then I peek out at her.

Then I grab the covers again because I think it is fun and that we should play before we go to sleep.
At this point Sue begins to think that we are not having fun.

When I grab the covers and begin to pull them off the bed Sue always says the same thing. She says, "THAT'S IT!! I AM DONE WITH THIS!!"
Then she hops out of bed and grabs me by the scruff of the neck and says, "ELVIS. SIT!!!"

When this happens I know we are not playing anymore and that Sue means BUSINESS!
So I sit.
Did you know that Sue can make me go to sleep? Yes! She can!
When she tells me to sit she looks at me and says, "SIT." Then she just stares at me.
Do you know what happens next?

I will tell you what happens. The longer she stares at me the sleepier I get!! Pretty soon my eyes begin to droop.
Can you see them drooping?

She lies in bed and watches my eyes droop. Sometimes she says, "Sit" to remind me that SHE is in charge.
Well, after just a few minutes my eyes shut and I slide to the floor. I cannot help it. It happens every time! I just sliiiiiide to the floor!

Then Sue says, "Goodnight, Elvis, darling."
And she turns out the light.

And that is how it is when I am bad.

Love,
Elvis.

Winter and Stuff

Hi everybody.
Did you know that sometimes I get bored? Yes. I do. Especially when I am inside in the winter.
Sue and I sit in the breakfast nook a lot and we look outside. We just look and look.
This is me with my head on Sue's knee. I am trying to tell her something, but she is not listening to me...

So then I go over to the window and look outside, but she STILL does not listen to what I am trying to say.

I see my friends at the bird feeder and I want to GO OUTSIDE!!! That is what I am trying to TELL her! Let's go outside!!

FINALLY we go outside. Then she starts taking my picture. She always says, "Elvis! You are SOOOOO cute!" I get sick of hearing it.

I do not try to be cute. I just am. I also do not try to be bad, but sometimes I just am. I will tell you more about being bad next time I write.

Eric came to visit us! I liked him right away. And he liked me, too. We became very good friends. He and Sue took me for long walks. Sue usually takes me five or six miles almost every single day!!

In this picture I am telling Eric a secret. I am saying that sometimes Sue does not listen very well to me because I get tired of sitting in the breakfast nook instead of going outside. I wonder if she thinks I am an old person or something!
That is the secret I told Eric.

That is all the news I know.

Love,
Elvis

Eating Grass and Making History

Hi Everybody!
Did you know I eat grass? Yes. I do. Sue says it is the most annoying thing I do. She says "You are destroying our yard!" But I cannot help it. Now Sue is glad I eat grass and I will tell you why:

Last night I had to pee at 2:30 a.m. so Sue took me outside. On our way out she said, "Oh Elvis. I am glad you woke me up because maybe we can see the eclipse!!"
That is what I was thinking too!! I was thinking, "If Sue takes me out at 2:30 maybe we can see the eclipse!!"

Well, it was cloudy. While I was peeing Sue said, "It is too cloudy to see the eclipse. I am sad." Well, I was sad too, because I wanted to see the eclipse, so I decided to EAT GRASS so Sue would get mad and we would have to stay outside longer. Sure enough, she got mad and when she yelled at me I managed to run around both the bluebird feeder and the bluebird house and got my long leash tangled around two poles!!

Sue was purrrrrrrty mad as she was in her nightgown and her muck boots trying to get me untangled. She said, "Can't you see I"m freezing??? Why did you do this??"
Then when she got me untangled she looked up and ALL THE CLOUDS HAD PARTED and we saw the beautiful coppery moon in FULL ECLIPSE!!

Sue said, "Elvis! Look! It's the full eclipse!!" I was so happy! We saw the eclipse!! Sue said people had not seen the eclipse like this since 1638!! I do not know what "1638" is but she had been talking about "1638" all week.

So now you know how I helped us make history by having to pee and eating grass.
Happy Winter Solstice!!

Love,
Elvis

Christmas and Stuff

Hi everyone.
It's me. Elvis.
Today Sue put a red bow on my head and said, "There. Now you are ready for Christmas." I do not know what Christmas is and I do not know why I need to wear a red bow. But I wanted you to know I am ready for Christmas.

Did you know Sue takes me for FIVE MILE WALKS??? Yes. She does. When we get home I am tired. In this picture Corrie and I look like we are dead but we are not. I am tired but Corrie is just old. She has to wear two sweaters because she is old and she gets purrrty cold.

Sue says, "Cold is good for you!" and I think so too. When we wake up in the morning our house is 56 degrees. Sue always says, "56. That is perfect." And I think exactly the same thing!! I always think, "56. That is perfect!!"

When Sue opens her eyes I put my chin on her bed. Then I put my paw on her bed. She says, "Good morning, little darling!" THEN she finally gets up. Then I yawn and then she takes me outside where it is even colder than 56 degrees!

This is a gate in our house. Do you remember the pictures of it the night before I came to live with Sue? I was only a baby puppy then. Now I think I am not a baby puppy any more because I can open the gate all by myself!! I just push the handle up with my nose and then I go and find Sue. She really does not care because I do not get into very much trouble. She just says, "Oh Elvis. You are very smart."

Do you know what snow is? I did not know until one day when Sue let me out and said "It is snowing!!" I just stood and watched as white flakes fell from the sky. Then I watched some more and then I played frisbee. Now I know what snow is.

love,
Elvis
